I had my rear quarter window frame chrome plated and it turned out great. Just one problem, now the pivot arm that connects to the assembly will not turn. I tried Blaster but it is still not moving. I do not want to pry to much because it is pot metal. Any suggestions?

The pivot arm will not turn because of the plating buildup between the frame and the pivot arm. The pivot arm might have to be removed so that the excess plating can be removed to give the pivot arm room to turn.

Same problem once..I used propane torch with mild heat and the contact area moved with no damage to new chrome.

Both great suggestions. I heated up the pin area with a heat gun. Had my wife hold the frame so I could hit the pin with a punch. I did cut a notch in a 1/4" piece of wood so I could place it where the glass would have been for support. After several gentle wacks with a small hammer, the pin began to move. I removed the pin, cleaned up all the areas that came into contact with the pivot arm, put a little silicone gel on all the contact points and put it back together. Attached is a photo of what tools I used. Thanks for the suggestions JYD and blue38. No fingers or chome were harmed in this event.

Usually, in situations like that the pin and pivot arm are removed first before plating, then both the frame and the pivot arm are plated. The pin is cleaned and polished and is then reinserted joining both pieces back together.

Never had anything like this chrome plated before. The first question I had for the platter when I gave this piece was, should I remove the pivot arm. He said it will be okay and to leave it on. Life lesson # 3,018 - only 2,781 to go.

The fellow at the plating shop was incorrect. Parts should be completely disassembled before plating when possible.
