My son was in a fender bender on a gravel road the other day with his '94 Blazer. He swears he wasn't going but 30-35 mph. When the dust settled he said the vehicle had quit moving and sat there for a second. Then it slowly rolled over on its side. Everyone was ok.

He called some friends and they came over and put it back on its wheels.

The vehicle has only minor scratches on it. The worst damage is to an outside mirror that is broken.

However, all the gauges quit operating. It also quit charging.

It is otherwise operating ok.

Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong or how to go about fixing it?

I think you have two problems. Check the plug into the alternator and the main wire to make sure they are still connected.

The gages may be related, but likely the plug in the back of the instrument cluster has pulled loose.

how about connection to the battery? It may have opened up from the turnover. I had one on my 95 pickup that lost the positive side connection to the inside of the battery, the top connection was ok but nothing would work, it was a mystery for an hour or two , I had fire on top but nothing to the starter switch or ignition switch. A new battery fixed it up.

It starts and runs fine....or did until my son tried driving it at night.

All it took to repair it was a 40 cent fuse and a new battery.

The reference to driving at night comes from the fact that the Blazer wasn't charging. My son didn't know it would run a long time like that unless and until you started using whatever to drain the battery.

In his defense, I'm not sure he realized it wasn't generating as all the other gauges had quit too.

Seems like there's been 'fender benders' that cost ten times this rollover!! And nobody hurt! Definitely a much better ending than it could have been!!

Certainly no problem with any 'delay.' I was just curious.... hoping all was OK.

There have been fender benders that took lives. A roll over with no scratches or bruises is amazing to me.

My son, typical for his 23 years, said when he and his friend exited the vehicle the radio was still playing.

So what did they do while waiting for help?

They danced.

At least they were able to have fun and did. :)
