I have recently acquired my granfather's 1948 Stylemaster. While attempting to restore it to original, I noticed that it looks like there may have been a reverse light on it at one time. I have not had any luck in finding a replacement. Any ideas?

Hi,

The back up light you are looking for will have a pedestal attached to the body under the tail/stop light. On the end will be the backup light. I have seen them at swap meets and on ebay.

You will have a dark brown on/off switch located under the dash and on the edge. The handle will be labeled "BACK".

Perhaps some of the 1942-48 fans on the sight may have a spare.

This is a little off topic but related also. did the '42 to '46 have a diff. back up light? Was it not rectangular and the same design as the rear tail lights? I have seen them on ebay and go for ridiculous amounts of money but have never seen them on any cars in pictures or other. There is a diff part# listed for 42 and 46 and the discription of measurements sounds about right for the lense and bezel. Just wondered if I'm blowin wind or not.

I saved the box that my '48 backup light came in. It has a switch that goes on the shift linkage on top of the steering column in the engine compartment. The backup light has a mounting bracket that is mounted between the left tail light and the trunk opening. The light is round and has the Guide # B31 at the top. The shell and bracket are chrome. The bracket is mounted to the body using a rubber mounting gasket. The light makes a right angle with the bracket...... The bad part is that you have to drill three holes in the body to mount the bracket. One is for a dowel, one has a bolt and the other one has the wire....group 2.697 part #986095
