I'm wondering whether there's a source for replacement locking plates that go under the bolts that hold the flywheel to the crank on a 235. I'm talking about the plates that span 2 adjacent bolts, that have "ears" that you bend up to keep the bolts from turning. The engine that I have has apparently been apart a few times, and the ears are pretty much gone.

Looking around the internet, I can't find any replacement locking plates. Do any of you know of a source for these? Or is there an alternative solution that's preferred (lock washers, etc?).

Thanks,

Joe
i have some used ones but also had a pkg of new from mr gasket
MR.GASKET FLYWHEEL BOLT LOCKING STRAPS #912A ebay has a listing for same part for 5.25 the item number is 313591756480 listed as mr gasket part number R912A says they have 6 packs hope this helps andy
I still have some sets I made up in 2011. Since then I think I found that all flywheel bolt configurations were not the same so you need to be sure of the demensions needed for your applications. Do to a lot of factors I have raised the price to $10 per set which includes postage. Flywheel Locking Plates

Thanks for the reply. At this time, the a search on ebay of the item number comes up empty. The Mr. Gasket ... 912A search turns up flywheel bolts with lock washers. Close, but I'd have more faith in the bent tabs than the lock washer. I'll probably just follow up with Mike's reply.

Thanks, Joe
Mike, I'll measure mine, and send you a PM. Thanks, Joe

i wonder why Chevrolet didn't us lock washers.

Any ideas on this? How about Bottom of radiator plates/frame and u-joint, as well.

Was it because the plates were better able to secure the bolts than lock washers?

Hmmm.

BTW; i think Mike's price is really fair and, if you know of his miticulous work, that they are as good or better than the original. He even includes the postage.

Acctually Charlie you correctly answered your own question, most types of "lock washers" are a good method of securing a fastener but the bend over tab is by far superior to washers and "lock nuts". Split pins are in much the same catergory ans the bend over tab (plate or washer).
