Does anyone know the type of material and color of 1931 trim #3?

For trim combination number 3, the material is listed as "plush" with cotton velvet headlining. No color is listed.

March 1, 1935 parts book shows more than six different trim numbers for 1931 closed cars. Do any 1931s still exist with original interior that could match the trim number to the color and type of material?

I doubt that many still exist with original interiors. The fabrics are prone to deterioration from heat, sunlight and gnawing animals. I would be fairly sure that only in a well protected area would the color be correct. The plush would be a velour fabric probably in a mouse brown or taupe similar to the mohair. I would also guess it would be a cotton instead of wool.

Hey Dave how 'bout a project to identify and protect original interior fabrics similar to the numbers project you did many years ago? Might not take all of your spare time. Would be very helpful in preserving another bit of Chevrolet history.

A project like that could end some serious defects in VCCA judging if enough information becomes available.

I completely agree that project can pay untold dividends. Does that mean you will take it on? I'll help where I can. There are original interior fabrics being discarded each day so time is of the essence.

Wonder if the VCCA TAs can be brought on board by coordinator Jim Amos? Hey, Jim you out there? On board? We need your help!

If there's enough response from members and if club management will support it, I would do that, collect information and make it available. In my opinion there should also be a TA for paint combinations.

We have one VCCA member here in Dallas who has a '31 with the original #3 interior in the taupe color which, I think, was the most produced version. His name is Joel Roper and he was very helpful in letting me take pics and notes before I installled my new Hampton interior.

I finally had a chance to look up my trim information. Trim # 3 is Taupe Mohair. That trim number was used in Sport Coupe, Special Sedan and 5-Passenger Coupe. Those had the upgraded interior with fancier stitching on door panels.

A parts car I once had was a '31 Special Sedan body no. K222, casting dates in mid November 1930, trim no. 3 and paint no. 67, Chicle Drab and Autumn Drab with red stripe and wheels. It was found behind an old flour mill near the town of Molina, Colorado, wrecked, vandalized and abandoned in a ditch full of weeds, it's wheels without tires sitting on flat planks and mud washed in up to the running boards. There was nothing left of the interior. It was an all day job to get the car out of the briar patch and loaded on a trailer.

Paint combination 67 was probably not used after 12/31/30. The grandson of the original owner told me the car was "tan" and a showroom model. Could that have been a factory promotion for the new 1931 Chevrolet, or perhaps he meant it was just purchased in the dealer's showroom?
