I have access to a 1950 4400 flatbed, at a very reasonable cost. I was thinking about swapping the cab and front end to a 70's frame. I was told that the frame, or wheel width for the 70's truck is wider. I measured and found that the 70's truck was approximately 8" wider at the outside of the tire. Is there another swap that can be done. I was considering lowering the truck, for a fun "run around" truck. I might consider a 4X4 swap as well. I'm really looking for a way to modernize the suspension and drive train, without breaking the bank. I would like it to be at least 3/4 or 1 ton. I wouldn't be hauling huge loads, or adding huge horsepower. Any thoughts?

Hello Lynn,

The VCCA is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the Chevrolet vehicle.

Members may have "some" modifications to their vehicles, but major modifications to the original vehicle might not be easily found in this forum.

Good luck with your vehicle.

Hi Lynn
Try ChevyTalk for your modifying questions. They have many forums, including truck-specific ones. Good luck!

Lynn,
You might be surprised at how useful and fun the truck would be if left in original form. My original, unrestored, '36 1-1/2 ton is used regularly and always gets attention.
Why take something no one has and turn it into something everybody has.
