Just so you all know the price of the 42-48 convertibles appear to have reached a new level. The reason for this observation is the sight in the 2017 Hershey Car Carrol of a nicely done dark blue 1942 convertible. (I think I screwed that sentence up big time) I'll get a picture out maybe tomorrow. I'll need someone to post it for me.

Anyway, the price was a measley $125,000 (and that righjt there ain't no stinking typo) Agrin

I now have renewed interest in my project car even though it is merely a 41.

Nice car but I didn't think it was worth that kind of money.

Putting a price on it does not establish it's value. If that were the case you would not need to finish your project car-just put a high asking price on it and save all the work and expense of restoring it.

We noticed asking prices have soared to new heights, too, on all types of vehicles. I suspect it's simply the sellers hoping a rich fool will happen along searching for just that car. Which probably does happen occasionally. A 29 Model A roadster (old, very tired restoration needing a lot but still running and driving) near our space was $20K on Wednesday. On Thursday morning it was $16K, and that afternoon it was at 13,750. Friday, it could be yours for 12.5, and by Friday afternoon 11 would buy it...

Transaction price is the key! As my economics professor would say "The market price is set when a buyer and seller agree".

Thanks for posting the picture for me, Bill. I sent you a PM but it appears that it bounced like an out-if-state check.

That 42 Chevrolet Convertible had an asking price in the Stratosphere....but that of course was the asking price and late on Friday it was still for sale in the Hershey car corral. May I also mention that the Plymouth woodie wagon that is in the background of your photo had an asking price of a mere $29,500. I thought that was a steal....of course so few folks get excited about a Plymouth. ...not sure it sold even though it was a great buy.

What may have happened is that the owner intended to show the car but for some reason was unable to do so as far as getting it in the AACA show car arena was concerned.

The above then may have prompted the owner to place the car in the car carrol with a high enough price that he could show the car without the neusense of having to deal with potential buyers,

Across from my spaces at Hershey are some Stanley Steamer folks. They said they missed the deadline by just a few days to get it into the AACA show. They drove it around some and then loaded it back up in the enclosed trailer. (It was a really fine restoration. Prestine/Concurs. Dark blue and black. Nice.)

Just saying that the 42 may not have been really for sale except at a really high price. Often we don't know the real story.
