I have six new vane type pumps that look similar but the bodies are three different lengths. The locating hole on the flat is 12/32 to center from the end on all three. They all have the same cover with casting number 2W-837754 which is the cover for 35, 36. I suspect these are Wohlert's pumps as all the gear drives I have are as well.

Anyone have any ideas on how to pinpoint their application, I would like to sell these and the gear pumps but don't want any disappointments?

Thanks

Dave

Wow, thanks. Which parts book is that in and do they show what the measuring points are? Is it with the pumps or in the back somewhere?

Thanks

This is from the 1953 book MOst post war books will have it.
When it says overall length it means from the longest point on each end. No pictures.

Just two warnings.
If they are not genuine Chevrolet pumps the demensions could be different.
The pump came as a change over kit and included the oval screen, screen cover, connecting pipe and pick-up, etc. If these parts are missing the pumps are useless.
These were bascially 1937-1939 pumps modified to fit the older models.

Yes the gear type pumps are the complete kit with screen, pipes, covers and instructions. Those dimensions seem to match. The vane pumps are shorter as 6 7/16, 6 9/16, and 6 7/8. Can I presume the logic on length would be the same on the vanes. As in; 6 7/16 (30-34), 6 9/16 (33-34 master), and 6 7/8 (35 flat)?

Thanks

If your pumps are Wohlert brand, I hope they are made of iron. I have seen the wohlert pot metal pumps that were unused and had disintegrated in the box. I would be afraid to use one for fear they would fall apart while in use.

Dave,
I have some vane pumps that are still boxed. Where are you measuring?

I was using calipers from the top of the pump cover to the end of the housing that mates to the distributor. Gene suggested over all length is what is in the catalog, which I also have. I think the top of the cover to the end is better since you have flat surfaces.

Thanks

Comparing the gear pumps to the vane pumps I noticed the shaft sizes are different at the machined surfaces. The gear pumps are the same upper and lower machine surface and approx. 1.060. The vane pumps have a lower surface of 1.465, upper 1.060. The illustration in the 29-32 catalog shows a pump (354455)with a larger bottom shaft machine surface. Likewise the 1944 catalog shows straight shaft illustrations of the gear pumps. Is this correct and if so does the gear pump just fit on the upper machine surface?

Thanks

Dave
