Board members toured Fink Printing on Friday and were handed the G&D. This is how you solve the issue of late delivery. Buy an airline ticket and take a cab to Fink Printing once a month and pick it up.

Seems like the "Northwest" guys are getting their G and D's first-est this month!

My March issue also arrived (here in PDX, OR) on Monday, 3/5. Great to see Bob Gregg's '40 coupe on the cover! Nice article by his writer-wife Judy.

Too bad we haven't seen "Big Bob" here in Chevy Chat for quite some time. He always had something good to say. And he was always helpful with posting pictures for the "picture posting challenged." Still, 'twas very nice to see "Sweetie Pie" on the March cover.

Bill.

This is a first time I beat the NW guys to my GD. It helped being at the BOD Meeting! It was pretty good looking at the classifieds in this issue and knowing the stuff was still there! It made good reading on the way home from CA over the weekend. I left some nice 70+ degree temps for a deep NE freeze! As you guys might have heard we are going to offer the membership the oppertunity for First Class delivery if they elect to pay for it. I know the members here in the NE are about three weeks behind to get ours, this will give anyone a better shot with the classifieds who wants it

I had enough of winter, I am heading down to Fla this weekend for a visit with Dad and few Yankee spring training games.

Well they can attract new members but keeping them is another thing and with there current system for sending out the G&D It's going to be hard keeping members outside of the United States.
Still have not received my Febuary edition yet.

The recent BOD meeting addressed the unequal delivery of the G&D by approving two proposals. One is to permit members to opt for first class mailing if they pay the extra postage. The other is to post the classified ads on the web approximately the same time the magazines are mailed. The site will be password protected so the service is limited to VCCA members. It will take some time to get these operational but take heart things are a changing in the "new" VCCA.

Chip is correct.

The "Target Date" for availablility of the option of subscribing via "First Class" mailing is July 1st. That's just to change the subscription AVAILABILITY - and then actually mailing that way would take a month or so to implement, if you elect to change to it. Information will appear on the "wrapper sheet" that the G&D comes in. This option will also be available for International members.

Members desiring First Class mailing will have to pay the additional cost. We are finalizing those numbers.

To better explain, let's say the 'Change Form' becomes available in the July issue. Then you have to wait to receive that issue (or hopefully we can make the Form available on the Website), and send it back with your payment. Then it has to be processed, and get into the System. So it might well be September before you get the first issue sent via First Class. Another important point - we are trying to figure out how to do this without waiting for your Renewal Date. Trickier than it sounds!

But if it's just the Classifieds you want fast -

The posting of the classified ads is also targeted for early to mid- Summer. We are working on the logistics of that, too.

It's coming, hang in there!

I got my G&D from February today. Trust there will be some better solutions when the new first class mail and the classified ads on the net are coming into action.

:love:Thanks to the BOD for finding useful solutions to this question.

In order to get the replies from the International members near to the ones domestic, why not inform the printed message from G&D on the net, and let the members abroad send their preferred class of postage electronically to a specially selected email box.
Or we will be one - two months behind as we are now. OK?

Then VCCA also could check out an example of the system voting by email, by arranging this test internationally.

Even when (IF) the "first class mail" option is available later this year, none of you really think somebody in Germnay or New Zealand or even New York State will get their G and D before somebody in Cali or OR or WA..... do you?????

I hope you don't. You're just setting yourself up for disappoint if you do. It's just common sense that it takes longer to go farther. Just like it takes me longer to get from Portland to San Francisco (600 miles) than it does to get from Portland to Salem, OR (50 miles).

Ya gotta be realistic about this delivery time matter..... Well, I guess you don't have to be realistic about it. But it sure makes sense if you are!!!

It will be really interesting to see of Kepi will opt for first class mailing. He lives closer to the Orange, CA Post Office (where G&Ds are mailed) but typically gets his issues after us Texans and a long time after you get yours. So miles is not the whole story either. Only the PO or a higher power knows for sure.

42Bill,

Hate to burst your bubble, but it almost seems like distance don't matter. G&D delivered to JYD in Eagle Point, Oregon and to me in Brandon, Vermont on the same day (3/5/07). How does the Post Office do that?  devil crazy

Distance is not the problem. It's the mass disorganization of the post office that's at issue here! I have received first class and priority mail that took as long as a week and a half to arrive at my mail box, and on the flip side of the coin I had a media mail piece only take two days to arrive from New York! Go figure! And, as we speak, a package was mailed from Grants Pass, Oregon to me here in Eagle Point (that's less than 40 miles away guys) over three weeks ago and it hasn't arrived yet!

There is no rhyme or reason as to how the stupid post office works!

First Class Mail would hardly solve the problem as was mentioned reality is the west coast will still get there copy first. And I do beleive at least for me the only thing thats time sensitive is the classifieds I mean some people have seen March's classifieds and I still have not seen Febuary's.And Paying an additional fee sure doesn't seem right,so the web site seems to be the only answer.Just my humble opinion.

Well that's fine with me. If it isn't distance and IT REALLY IS the PO as "you guys" are saying...... then why would anybody pay the extra for First Class Mail??? And even more important, why do "you" have busy VCCA people wasting time even looking into how to get this whole First Class Mail thing set-up??

Personally, I think you guys who say First Class won't get you the G and D sooner are WRONG. That's based on the fact I don't know anybody who pays for Hemming's First Class Mail service who doesn't get their Hemming's before the other guys who don't pay the extra for the First Class Service.

As the old guy said, "To pay or not to pay. That is the question."

Hemmings Motor News is no different then anything else that is shipped through the post office. Just because it's Hemmings doesn't make it any more special over other types of mail.

Sure, those that pay extra to get Hemmings via first class will usually, but not always, get their magazine before those that receive their magazine via third class. But, like everything else that is shipped through the mail, that is not always the case. I subscribed to Hemmings for decades and I received my magazine via third class. However, on occasion I would receive my magazine BEFORE some of the dudes that received their Hemmings first class. EVERYTHING is at the mercy of the post office and it doesn't matter if the mail is Priority, First Class, Media Mail or Parcel Post. Just because it is shipped first class doesn't guarantee that it will arrive when it is supposed to. As 42bill stated in his earlier posting, "Ya gotta be realistic about this delivery time matter".....which means the mail, albeit first class or whatever, will get there when the post office is darned good and ready to deliver it!!

Bill,This seems to be turning personal,I for one did not ask "quote" THE BUSY VCCA PEOPLE TO WASTE THERE TIME."unquote".I just thought that for the good of the VCCA membership as well as Future members this would and should be an issue that is at least investagated.AS a fairly new member maybe i'm out of place having any opinion however this is what I see,All the information one could want is avalible by posting a question on the VCCA web site great bunch of guys willing to help anyone.
[NO MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED].So if you don't live close to a regional club then the only thing you get for your membership is the G&D.Thanks for letting me vent.

Hey 26,

I sure didn't mean anything "personal." It just seems (seemed) to me that there isn't any reason to go for the First Class if guys (maybe especially like my buddy Skip) think First Class won't do any "good."

I apologize if I incorrectly included you in those that seem to feel the PO will screw it up whether it's First Class or otherwise.

From my own experience I can say without reservation that the "better" the PO service I pay for the better (ie quicker) the service.

Maybe Skippy (Junk Yard Dog) lives too far out of town to get "good" service. Don't know about that. But, maybe.....

First class might not be the best option for those of us that are online. But not all VCCA members are in the net so first class will be a viable option for them. Or maybe it will entice them to join the webset.

Yes, so it would seem. Unless your initials are S. G. (aka J.Y.D.). Skippy seems to have one heckuva erector set for the PO.

Whatever.....

It is really hard to try and figure out who gets theirs first or last. I live about three hours from the Finks printing co. and I got my March issue two days after Skip. Go figure.
