Hello, a friend of mine owns a 62 Chevy 1/2 ton truck and blew his motor. He wants some info on the motor. Behind the starter is D-18-2. We all know what that is but the block number is 3769716. He gave me another number that is right next to the distributor that reads f0510j and the head number is 3836848. Any info would be very grateful,. Thanks...Oscar auto

The block was cast on April 18,1962 and the block and head casting numbers are correct for a 1962 235 - as well as some prior years.

Depending on what's going to happen to your friends motor / how bad it is / etc, some folks would be interested in that "848" head. (Last three digits.) Some folks like to replace their "914" (not positive about that number) older heads with those. A little higher compression / more hp, etc.

Just a thought.....

Bill, this guy was driving his truck to school 5 days a week and the school was 65 miles away. This truck has a four speed and you know how low they are. Well he was doing 65 to 70 MPH and blew the motor up. He said there is a hole in the block and there was a two foot wide oil slick on the road. Not to smart. Anyway the motor is gone and I don't know about the head. He wants to buy my other 235 motor and I said no way. Thanks Chevygene for the info...Oscar :o :o sick

Oscar,

It looks like you'll be driving to Saturday breakfasts and on the back roads "hunting" trips for a while....

Oscar,

I was referring to your Saturday breakfasts and trips with your buddy.....

I presumed the guy you go with is the guy who had the engine problem. Trying to be funny.... In that his engine blew, you'll NOW be doing all the driving......

Proves again it ain't easy to be "funny".....

Bill, the guy who's motor blew I've only known for a short time. My friend I go car hunting with I've known for 30 years. We used to do this 25 years ago and still do. 25 years ago I must have come across at least one 53 convertible. I was probably more interested in beer and women. Thanks and have a good day...Oscar cool yipp auto

Well Oscar, "beer and women" might not be the two worse pursuits of a young fella's youth. However, I suspect you went right by more than just one 53 Chev convertible in those days. Too bad "we" didn't know then what "we" know now. Might have been able to enjoy all three!! Oh well.....
