Hi, Folks -

I have just confirmed our reservations, we will be holding the 5th Annual Area 9 National Meet in Abbeyville, South Carolina from April 12 through 14, 2007. A neat, historic small town, and the Chamber of Commerce is giving us exclusive use of the Town Square for the event.

This will probably be the first such Meet for 2007, and the southern hospitality is legendary for good reason! We always have a fantastic time at these Meets, and encourage you to consider attending.

If some one can instruct me how to put notice of this on the "public" version of our Chat calendar, I will.

Scroll to the top of the first page. Find "calendar" and click on same. Now scroll down until you are between the two months calendars. Find "Add new event" and poke it. Follow the boxes and complete each one as required. Post your information. Slide your chair out from under the computor keyboard, jump straight up and shout, "Dang, that was easy".

Thanks, Ray - but wouldn't that just put it on my own "personal" calendar, and other people don't see it?

I got a private message from the proper authorized person, offering to format the info and put it on the "public" calendar.

Being kind of a clumsy old acrobat, I am also concerned that I might not slide my chair back far enough, and when I jump straight up I might hit my knees under the keyboard and tip everything over.......

If it says "private" when you click on "add new event" and then "type" the event will only be added to your personal calendar and not the public calendar where everyone can see it.

:( laugh wink

Click on the box marked "Private" and if the drop down menu still stays "Private" then your event will only post to your private calendar and not to the public calendar.

wink  :)

If that happens I would contact Member #1.

I also suspect that ChevyGuru would take the necessary action.

Can't contact member number 1 since that is the host company of this site. I did contact member number 2 (Billy Boy Barker) and he confirmed that is the way it is with the private calendar. Apparently only specific people (like moderators possibly) can post on the public calendar.

wink :) :)

Not a problem Raymondo! Actually, it didn't take any "excess" time at all since I was already on the phone with Billy Boy Barker testing Chevy Chatter II for him as requested a day before it came on line. And, test posting events on the new calendar was one of the tests that we did and he confirmed at that time as to how the "Private" calendar was supposed to work.

:) wink laugh

Thank you, gentlemen, for all your energy on this subject!

It turns out that it is necessary to send the information to a specified person to get it placed on the "public" calendar. I am only able to post onto my "private" calendar.

But do not despair, I have sent the information to the 'Appointed Person,' and soon everyone will be able to see it on their calendar.

In the mean time, go ahead and register for this event!

JYD, finish up that little project of yours you've been working on for a while now, and drive it on down to South Carolina for its coming out party! It would be a nice little drive from Oregon to get it sorted out. And Ray, we would love to see your '33 basking in the Dixie sun in April.

Sorry for the run around... I have set it up so that Only Moderators can post to the public calendar... this seemed a necessary limitation to keep unwanted postings from showing up.

I'm sure that most any Moderator would be happy to assist anyone.

I'll see you in Abbeyville. I started waxing our 1970 original 28,000 mile Impala this week. It will be our first meet with it. Looking forward to meeting VCCA folks from another area of the country.

Chatty, it is true that there aren't many events in Dixie. That is why 5 years ago (when I still lived in Florida) me and some other folks started the "1st Annual" of the Southeastern nationally sanctioned show, of which this one is the 5th annual edition. It moves around the South each year.

Also, the VCCA Region based down in the Ft. Myers / Punta Gorda area is doing an annual regional car show each year now, too. Next year, they are hosting the 6th Annual of this Meet. My original idea was to do this in the late winter or early spring, when nothing much else was on the calendar.

Back Roads, the Registration Form is supposed to be in the January G&D, I understand.

Thanks Guru. I am retired so it doesn't much matter to me but for the younger folks it is sometimes a problem. I received a call from a relative the other day wanting a date for something the family is doing. She has to schedule her vacation by the end of January.

I have been involved in the hosting of these events. We almost always know a year in advance the dates and location. It would be nice to get this information out for the working members.

In the last Antique Automobile magazine they had the schedule for 2007 and 2008. VMCCA did the same.

While you are on the BOD [lease see what you can do to help this along so we can get younger members to participate.

Back Roads -

I believe they would have had the information out earlier, but with the Special Edition of the G&D combining November and December for the Anniversary Meet issue, the October issue would have been the most recent possible issue, before January that is. And the cut-off for that issue was September 1st, at which time they didn't have firm commitments from the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce yet.

The dates are April 12 thru 14, and are on the Calendar of this chat site, along with contact info.

I'm not sure if it is "officially OK" or not to release this - but I'll go ahead and say it anyway. Just this past week, the Board passed the Motion to create an Annual Calendar. I'm not yet clear on when that will be available or published, but it is coming.

Guru,
This will be our first show as members of VCCA. WE are driving our '63 Impala from Sevierville, TN. We are looking forward to meeting everyone there. Since we were a little late in registering, we are staying in Greenwood, SC., a short distance away.

If you did not attend the Area 9 Meet you missed a good one. Lots of friendly folks in VCCA and in the town. A perfect spot for the car show around the town square. Staying in a 103 year old hotel. The weather was perfect for field entrance checking on Thursday, judging on Friday, and for touring on Saturday. Our round trip driving our 1970 Impala was 1,226.2 miles and worth every inch of it.

Keep your eyes open for the location and dates for next year.

Back Roads is correct. The Area 9 Meet in Abbeville, SC was outstanding! For three days the town closed off the town square for the VCCA. The town welcomed us and did everything possible to show us good old fashioned southern hospitality. Everything we might need or want was within walking distance from the show field. The Upstate South Carolina Region did an outstanding job of pulling off this first Meet of the season! I encourage any one who takes a trip to SC to visit this unique town and people.

The cars shown were beautiful. There were people from CT, NJ, OH, VA, TN, GA, FL, NC, and SC. The first participation of a newer - less than 25 years old - vehicle happened at this event (not judged). It was a 1996 Impala SS from VA.

The other thing we heard a lot of was that it was like a family reunion. Members who had never attended one of our events were impressed with how "friendly and helpful" our members were to them. It was great seeing all of our friends after the long hibernation of winter, and to make new ones.

It was great seeing and talking with you Back Roads and I'm sure we will be seeing each other again soon.
