If the Pontiac Solstice was my ONLY choice other than the new Mustang, I think I'd have to go with the ...... (I suppose I shouldn't finish that in a "Chevy" forum.) The Solstice looks OK. But in real life it's a little, tiny 4 cylinder under-powered piece of Junque. Sadly for my wife and I, we were very excited about the Chevy HHR until we learned it was basically the same thing as a Solstice (platform, engine, etc.) but with a different 'body.' Too bad....... :(  :( Bill.

I thought the HHR was built on the Colbolt platform. (?)
Yeah Gator I should have save my 69 roadster for her. But then we wouldn't have a house to live in. She does like them though.
I sure wish Chevy would get off their tush and build the answer to that Mustang...a retro Camaro SS! ...then I can give her my Blazer. Ta ta!

Count for what K1dan?
maybe it would get you elected to the BOD, if you were to run!
My kid is too busy in the US Army, he is getting ready for his third trip to Iraq next month, besides he drives a Damned ol' Ram! Well maybe not for long at 10 to 12 MPG to haul groceries in! After he heard and saw the evidence that the 05 Tahoe hauled the 53 Belair Sedan on a trailer over 1200 miles to Fort Smith and back, last week and averaged 16.5 MPG!
Oh well I have tried to tell him and his brothers and sisters what it is all about. Just listen to the old man... Sometimes it takes and sometimes it don't.....
Life's a long winding trail, love Jesus and ride a good horse!

Hey MM,
Do you have a picture we could see of the 53 Bel Air Sedan you took - on a trailer - to the Southern Fall Tour???

Me too K1dan!
Dad joined up back in the early seventy's and I joined in 93-94 (I think). I'm 56 now and maybe my daughter will join when she inherits my Coupe! I was looking at a 63 Chevy II SS ragtop yesterday on eBay and she thought it was cool. There may be hope for her yet!

There never wasn't any hope!
The more you write about her the more I think she's a GREAT daughter.
And she may even be stepping away from that 'new' Mustang idea, if she thinks the Nova is 'cool.' Gee, fancy that.
Good papa. Good daughter.
You should be very proud RG!!!
Bill.

Take her to some all Chevy shows...she will fall in love with one of them.
Funny, my son is into old cars my daughter doesn't seem to care much, except for Vettes.
I must have done something wrong...

Thanks for the kind words Bill. She has been to a few shows Gator. Too bad it was about 95 degrees each time and ya know how woman get in that kinda weather. She's great and we shared some car stuff thru the years. I took her and some of her freinds to a Nascar race, been to a few car shows, and even raced a few Karts together. She a good driver and she has the determination to win. Every time we pass a cool car on the road she's the first to give me the look and say "that's a cool car, Dad". But, it's the long hours in the garage that can turn off a 15 year old. I guess today's kids are just too used to instant everything. Most of the time her attitude is "do I really have to work at this, or why don't I just buy it"? Don't forget that I live in the NYC metro area and there are a LOT of distractions. You guy's out in the counrty have a very real advantage in that you can control what your kids do. I know what your thinking and yes I have control as the adult here. But when you grow up near the big city and there are a lot of eyes watching what you are wearing, where you go, and how much money you are spending, these poor little city girls had better keep up with the Jones' or you're made fun of and have no friends. ...It's the Hollywood mentality! UGH! Kids! Believe me when I say that I wish I had grown up as a country boy, and raised my family way far away from this NYC area.

RG I grew up with a 600 acre backyard 10 miles from an area where you could see the next house, there was plenty to do. When I married I moved into town and now my 3 children are like a moths (attracted to the lights). At least they dont touch the illegal elements even if they dont drive GM cars. Tony

Wow, tonyw. How long did it take you to cut the grass? I'm sure you had plenty to do. Chores on a spread that big had to be non-stop. That's what I'm talking about. I'm thinking way out there you almost in a world of your own. Around here we are forced to live on top of one another and therefore know what everyone else is doing. My property is 100' x 200' and that's considered large around here. I see all my nieghbors just about every day and the kids play or hang around each day. All of the kids are good kids and I'm thankful for that. It's a good town, but because everyone is crammed into this Metro area we all tend to keep up with the Jones'. I don't like it but the family has to go along with it.

New Thought.
My grandaughter, Kristen will graduate from Vanderbilt this year. She has never met her true father. She will graduate with honors-straight A's.
We have a mountain house where she works with me installing new windows, building fences, etc..
What a great kid. I wonder if I have given her to much because of my wanting to compensate for the loss of her father.
RGwiz, I know you are a wonderful, THINKING, man. Keep on.
Been there done that!

There's a good "saying" about all this whole idea of wondering if we're doing (or if we DID) OK in 'raising our kids.'
Maybe it belongs in the one-liner thread; but it sure fits here.
"I did the best I could with what I knew at the time."
What else could a guy (or the parents or the grandparents) do???
I honestly believe that's the way to think about this whole idea.
Bill.

John,
If I were you I would not call it "compensation". Like 42bill says you are doing the best you can do with what you know.
We all would like to "spoil" our kids because we love them so much. Your grandaughter sounds like a super kid and she deserves everything you can afford to give her. To me it dose not matter if at times you act as a fatherly figure. I'm sure she welcome's it, shown by her willing to help out on your projects. If she had shyed away from the work or gave excuses for not helping I may feel different.
Oh, I think you also should have the luxury of "spoiling" her a little more than normal because you are her Grandpa!

What should I do??
My grandaughters IQ goes off the scale.
When it was time for college I took her to Boston to look at colleges. We went to HARVARD, MIT, BOSTON UNIVERSITY, TUFTS,& BOSTON COLLEGE. She was tops in her private school and SAT's near perfect.
She was given a scholarship to VANDERBILT in Bio-Medical Engineering.
After one year of all A's she told me she was changing her major to ENGLISH.
The reason I later learned was because she met a boy who was a NAVY ROTC scholar.
She had to dumb herself down to be acceptable.
Now she is getting married 1/1/06. He is in flight school.
She is putting her education on hold for him. ( What a crock of Sh--!!!)
What a waste!!
Girls are so dumb!

John,
I've got a niece in a "similar" situation. She doesn't have the same IQ and college grades etc. etc. as your grand daughter; but she's "thrown away" a great musical talent situation and a college education to marry a young fella. Many (all ??) in the family feel it's a "waste" etc. etc.
Bottom line is I guess there's not much a family can do when a young one is making what appears to be a "bad" decision.
Bill.

100% correct 42Bill, "What appears to be a bad decision" Appears....To us... If it's wrong prove your love by helping to pick up the pieces, never say "Told you so" We can only give advice & our blessing.
I know of a woman who threw away a brilliant future for love, having only known the bloke for a couple of months. Her brothers & sisters all made it to the "Top?", University head of department, senior area bank manager, Head of a major electrical companies UK service division & manager of a power train manufacturer for prestige & race cars. She threw it all away because the "Hick" made her laugh & showed her life was fun. Every one of her family have divorced, some twice!
We've been happily married now 38 years.

Kipper That happens too often, my wife and I seperated after 19 years partly because I was trying to keep my business going by working 12 hours 7 days a week. The busines still went broke and I can do without my wife. As for the children they at least all have jobs. Tony

I'm sorry to hear that Tony, on both counts. I think that we should stand back sometimes & make apraisals of our lives, take a look at them from a different angle & realise what is really important.
