Whie we're on the subject of jacks. 48 Stylemaster. Bumper or scissor? And where/how was it secured? Saw this one on eBay and wondered if it was correct. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7904267779 And if not, is there a pic of the right one somewhere? Thanks!

The Ebay jack looks to be correct....Its a ratcheting type bumper jack--and the jack upper post fits into the center of the base-where as the 1949-54 style has the post offset to the front of the base. There is a single hook that hooks under the bumper edge.

This is the one they are talking about, the auction has ended. If you need a picture you should copy it to a hard drive, I don't know how long it will be shown on eBay

Thanks. I did have it copied to my reference folder. Just wasn't sure about getting it into the forum. Still need an answer to the second question. I'm assuming it wasn't left loose to rattle around in the trunk. And what colors will I eventually need? I'm sure the post will be galvanized but what about the base, mechanism, and handle? All purpose black? Or brown?
You guys are great in case nobody has mentioned it lately.
Thanks again!

The jack was black except for the post which was a silver - cadnium? plated-silver paint is acceptable for VCCA judging. The jack came in a card board box with the rest of the tools (hammer, screw driver, pliers etc.).After the owner opened it it was the up to the owner as to how he wanted to store them.
1949 was the first year that Chevrolet had a long coil spring in the trunk that held the jack, its base and handle in place next to the spare tire.(and they no longer were furnished with the small tools).
