Would anyone have, or know where I could see, a picture of an original jack for Advance Design (47-55.1) trucks? A picture was posted on the Stovebolt forums and I'm curious if that IS what the jack looked like.

I have a photo of one in my 1950 Dealer accessory catalog, but it says it is an accessory for all cars and does not mention trucks. I'm not sure if they came standard with trucks or not. Actually, I'm surprised they were an accessory for a car. Maybe this is a better quality jack than the one that came standard with the vehicle? What is the site URL for the jack at Stovebolt? I'll compare the photos.

Hi Jeff-
Now I'm really stumped! The jack in my catalog is the standard assemble-from-pieces type (base plate, upright notched tube, ratchet mechanism) that stands about 3' high. I am not familiar with the one in your photo, and now have no idea which is correct for Advanced Design trucks. In my 1950 I have the one shown in my catalog.

If anyone knows for sure, Jeff and I would both like to know!

Are you describing a bumper type jack? Can you post the picture from your catalog?

That picture looks like my 26 1/2 ton jack except for the flip over top riser.
Take a look at VCCA Technical Advisor For Tools 1937 through 1966 - David T. Miner site it might help answer some of your questions. It is a great site. Dave has done a lot of work putting it all togeather.

26chevy,
Doooh! Good suggestion, I shoulda thunk it myself. Visited Dave's website. He didn't have a picture of an AD jack, so I emailed him. I'll share any response I get with the group. Thanks again for all of the input.

Thanks, Speedline, but isn't that a car jack? In looking through the Chevrolet Master Parts book, 1929-1954, there were three jacks listed in parts group 8.820. In the listings, COMM is Commercial which is 1/2t, 3/4t, and 1t, PASS is Passenger, and UTIL is Utility which is 1 1/2t and larger.

ALL COMM axle type (3000 lb cap) (w/handle) 3690652
ALL PASS mech bumper type (cap 1200 lb) 3691394
ALL UTIL axle type (7000 lb cap) (w/handle) 609909

And so the search continues laugh

Hello Jeff and everybody: For 1947-1954 Chevrolet trucks listed as Commercial,I offer the following information. In 1947,48,49 & 50, the Master Parts Catalogs lists the commercial jack as: #609652, axle type with handle # 592769. In 1951,52 & 53, the Master Parts Catalogs lists the commercial jack as: # 3690652, axle type 3000 lbs with handle. I have a picture of a 1948 Chevrolet jack for 1.5 ton, 2 ton and 2 ton COE trucks. I have yet to see an original drawing/picture of the jack for the 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks.
