Approximately 25 cars, trucks, and a fire truck answered the call in Kanab, UT for the first annual meet.

At first I was confused. I thought I was at a second 4-cylinder meet for the year. I think at least 75% are regulars on the 4-cylinder tours.

Yesterday on our first tour we traveled down to the north rim of Grand Canyon. 173 miles south and the distance for the round trip. Lots of "good looking", and we disposed of a very good sack lunch while there.

Today we went NE to Zion. 81 miles round trip. After arriving at the visitor's center we all got our special Passport Books stamped. Another great sack lunch and short trips by foot on the trails to the various lookouts. The highlight was a bus trip in a special bus with a trailer. This was a free trip and took us from one end of the canyon to the turn-a-round point. Our driver was constantly pointing out points of interest. Finished the tour a bit early and returned to the RV Park/Hotel for a short rest prior to a special dinner and show tonight.

Tomorrow we head out to Bryce Canyon.

As a note of interest, several of us who are regulars on the Chevy Chat, voiced our concern about what could happen on the site with so many missing. Just hope the troublemakers don't get the site closed down.

More from the lap top tomorrow. It is an early riser tour.

Just returned from the show and dinner meal. Suprise---we were the show. We were all dressed in costumes and issued props, then we made a western movie (?). After the movie (?) we were served a very good cowboy BBQ. A very good evening.

A very big omission on my part. Jim Farris (Co-Chair) Began feeling bad even before most of the members had arrived and decided to return home. We have received word that he made it home with no major problems and had an early appointment with his cardioligist. No followup info yet.

Today was a great day of touring. Let me explain something for you. The Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon are parks that you view the formations from up on the ridge. Zion Park is set up for you to see the formations from the canyon floor.

So today we were up on the lip of the canyon and looking down. At first you think, just more of the same, but not so. The formations in Bryce are unique. The tour in the park is either by driving or riding a special bus. Most of our people chose the driving method and found it was more flexible to set your own pace.

Those of you who know me from the 4-cylinder tours are familiar with my episodes with tires. Today was no exception. Returning from one of the film shows I found my left front tire completely deflated. So off with one of my two holstered spares and onto the car for the return trip. Will do the diagnosis and subsequent repair when we return home.

Todays total: 152 miles. Tomorrow is local travel and the taking of the group picture. Must wait untill I return home to post any pictures.

No further word on Jim Farris.

Hi professorpat,

Too bad that you were unaware of this 29-36 Tour. It was listed in the G&D for several months before the applications closed. In reviewing your personal data it would appear that you are not a member of the VCCA. I suggest you (or anyone else) that was interested in this type tour, to contact me by email, and I will assist you in joining the VCCA. You really don't know what your are missing if you are not a member.

Hi Ray. I just got off the phone from talking to Jim Farris. He made It home OK and feels pretty good. No pains or anything like that now. He Is going to his doctor tomorrow morning and get checked out. He sounded fine and said he wished he could of stayed to go on the tours with you folks. Sounds like you had a great few days of touring. chevy

Today was picture day. Where was Dan when we needed him. When I get back to home base I will post the group picture.

This afternoon was Trunk Swap Meet and Seminar time.

The entire meet was closed tonight with a very good meal and after dinner entertainment. Honored was one of the attendees who drove a 1930 coupe all the way from Ohio. This fellow is no youngster, but can hold his own in this group.

Final business was the announcement of the dates and location for next year, with the twist that the 29-36 group will join with the National 4-cylinder group for next year's tour only.

Tomorrow is "hit the road day". Just hope the money doesn't run out before we get home. Very exciting filling the tank at a bit over $100.00 each stop.

Till next time.

Well I would have to agree with Ray, Jim and Tom did a great job setting up one of the best tours I've been on in years. Saw a lot of good friends and made new ones as well.

We droved almost 500 miles and Dad's 32 roadster ran great after fixing the carb at the Grand Canyon. Something got stuck in the needle and seat. Also learned that a sparkplug gap of 40 thousands makes a BIG difference on how a 32 engine runs.

I'm looking forward to next year and 2007 when we go to Jellystone, should be a great time. Maybe I will have my 32 Phaeton running by then.

Hope to see more of you early 6 guys next year, now that you know what your missing out on.

I am back at the office computer now and will finish my post on the 1929-36 Annual Tour. My trip back was without incident except for the gnashing and groaning when I stopped for fuel.

That is great that you know Al and Rita Severyn, Chevgene. They are in fact a very fine couple. They showed a film from the Discovery Channel that featured their 30 Coupe. They also related stories from their many travels. Oh, Rita drives too. If my memory serves me well they traveled 2000 miles to get to the meet over a 7 day period.

If you ever spot a black 1930 Chevrolet coupe moving along at about 40 MPH, smile, wave and provide help if needed. You will be rewarded by knowing them.

Promised some pictures so here they are:

The combined 4-cylinder and 29-36 groups will be in Montrose Colorado opening on June 29-2 July 2006.

The planning is under way for the 2007 Meet which is now planned for Yellowstone.

Yes, Al and Rita share the driving. If I remember correctly she drives for two hours and then he drives for two hours.I have never seen that car needing any repairs along the way - in fact have never seen it with the hood up.

My thoughts were to come up thru Durango and Silverton next year on the way to Grand Junction.Would join the 29-36 tour but my 1950 would be too new.

The Texans have returned home from the tour with stops at Grand Junction for 2006 meet stuff and Jenks, OK for the Area 6 Joint Tour. Luckily Rita (the hurricane) missed our homes while we were gone.

I totally agree that it was a first class tour. The scenery was spectacular, vehicles a credit to the VCCA but the camaraderie unbeatable. If you have never been on a VCCA tour you have missed the best part of the Club.

Nearly everyone made a repair, replacement or adjustment but all made it home each day. It is a credit to the reliability built in to every Chevrolet.

The invite was inviting but to deviate from Tulsa to Houston that far West was fuelish. Besides we wanted to see what Rita left to clean-up. Fortunately 'most nutin'.
