Fellas, I have started a new thread to discuss an annual anniversary meet. Please refer to that for continuing this discussion...so people who are interested in the topic will comment, rather than bypass this thread which is about the 100 year anniversary... supposedly a separate topic! https://vccachat.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=19&t=000013 Thanks!

Ok, so back to the 100 year anny of Chevrolet, What news does Pinky Randall have for the 100 year to-do from Chevrolet? Isn't he the Laison and publicity go between for VCCA and GM (Chevrolet)?

My contacts at Chevrolet indicate little or no planning on their part. If it hadn't been for the Corvette enthusiast groups and National Corvette Museum...they would have done little, if anything beyond a special design/color scheme, for the 50th anniversary. We live in a day where GM is faced with being controlled by Wall Street, not enthusiasts, and our voice (and their desire to serve us) is limited. I had to say this is what I hear...but it's true.

What an excellent idea James... anything to get a more "national" flavor added to some of the meets... if we continue to hold our meets every 5 years, then we're going to see our club continue to decline. By the way, the "spellchecker" is now on my list of suggestions for the next upgrade to the site next month. See here for the request for more suggestions!

I think it would be helpful for the board to present this issue to the club as a whole via the G&D as a formal review of issues facing the board and getting feedback.
We need to decide how strongly people feel about having our 50th anniversary meet:
a. In Flint b. How it relates to GM's expected celebration in 2012 not 2001
If people don't really want the 50th in Flint, it will afford the planners MUCH MORE flexibility in planning a good week of events and getting the right hotel.
And if the members don't really care about having the 2011 50th meet somehow tie in with the 2012 (expected) "celebration" by GM, more reasonable flexibility in planning.
- James
