Should the universal joint on a 36 Master receive some type of lubrication on installation and before the torque tube is attached? I noticed on the Ford Barn it is recommended that their universal joints be smothered in John Deere Corn Head Greece. The Chevrolet Six book I have says the universal joint is lubricated from the transmission. Does time tell us that may not be enough?

You can slightly over fill the trabsmission and after driving a few miles it will have seeped back here OR fill thru the speedometer gear fitting, about 1/2 pint.

I put a light coat of wheel bearing grease on the U-joint when I install it. That way it doesn't run dry for initial running. In the earlier cars with the fitting on top of the Ball Housing I also put a little 600w or equivalent through the hole. Later cars where it is necessary to lube through the speedometer passage I don't bother as it seems to only make a mess.
