Many years ago there was a rubberized whitewall tire paint that you painted your blackwall tires with to make them into whitewalls. I am showing my age here - is there something out there still available - or do I spring for new whitewalls- Car is 1930 Chevy - Were they available with whitewalls? I just think that whitewalls will make the car look better as blackwalls sort of look bland - if you know what I mean.

Maurice: 1930 Chevrolets came from the factory with blackwall tires. Whitewall tires were an aftermarket item and they could be installed by the dealer upon request. If you want whitewall tires, you are better off buying real ones instead of using the tire dressing. laugh laugh laugh

Maurice, I remember well the white white wall paint, we used it on a 46 Chevy coupe, and redid them every weekend, really looked BAD! then we bought the rubber rings that went under the rims and at crusing speed they flared out and made a flapping noise until they tore off in chunks ( maybe we cruised a little fast!)
I still put the white wall out on my cars, pickups and trailers, the tire man always asks: "white in or out?"

I have a dealer showroom picture of 1931 Chevies. I don't have it in front of me now but I know that at least one car is shown with double whitewall tires on it.

Hey Doug! Yes, I have the exact same photograph of the 1931 Chevrolets on the showroom floor and at least one of them has double whitewall tires. Those aftermarket tires were installed by the dealer and, back then, all whitewall tires were double whitewalls. From what I read, double whitewall tires were used up until around 1939. Prior to that, especially in the early 1930's, single whitewall tires were not available. :eek: :eek: laugh laugh laugh

HI DOUG, YES I HAVE SIX FIRESTONE DOUBLE SIDE WHITEWALL TIRES ON MY 32. IT IS SOMETHING ELSE TO KEEP THEM CLEAN ON THE INSIDE. I JACK THE CAR UP AND SPRAY WHITEWALL CLEANER AND SPIN THE TIRES. ITS A BIT OF A JOB, BUT THE DOUBLESIDE WHITEWALLS ARE REAL EYE CATCHERS AND LOOK GOOD ON THE CAR. :) :) chevy chevy :) :)

I also remember the "Mickey Mouse" porta walls, the ad ons that slipped between the bead and the rim, when I came home from the service a friend of mine had a 51 chev fleetline that had a caddy V-8 shoe horned in it, this car would come close to flying and we were testing this feature one night with the speedo pegged when one of the slip on WW tore in half, gave the inner fender a couple of good whacks and then left for parts un known, the other half stayed in place and we had what you would call a serious balance problem somewhat exagerated by near mach 1 speed! yipp newangel
