Hi 41chevycoupe6, Some possibilities are a 6-volt coil used on a 12-volt system. A coil designed for use with an external resistor and resister not used. Perhaps it is just normal as the coil will run hot at idle but will run cooler at speed. If none of these scenarios fit give us some more characteristics of what you have going.
