Advice needed for removal and replacement of the 207 cubic inch front crankshaft "cork" oil seal. I cannot find any detailed instruction and don't want to damage the cover. Does it pry out from the front of the cover similar to newer engines??? Any help is appreciated . thanks

The cover has to be removed to install the seal. I would use a better material than cork. Removing the cover will give you a chance to see if the oil return holes are open,

Gene, thanks for the feedback. The cover is off, but I'm not sure how to remove the cork seal. Does the metal flange pry out from the back side of the cover? Also, any recommendations to replace the cork? I'm all for that. Thanks. Harry Ainscough. 35 truck

Does anyone know of a non-cork replacement front oil seal for the cam gear cover??

I would look for some graphited rope packing,
The metal parts are welded to the cover so do not mess with it.

my 35 front seal is a lip seal done before i got the vehicle looks like they found a seal to match the balancer and made a bushing to match the seal and the timing gear cover and pressed it in and it workes no problems you will have to go to the place that sells seals and match it as close as possible hope this helps bm

I was able to get the old cork seal out. I bent up the three small tabs on the inside of the cover where the seal is. That gave me three small openings to tap the outer metal cork cover off/out . The seal metal cover removes from the front, with the cork, similar to current seals. I have measured the cork seal bore diameter and depth and, the balancer diameter in the cover. I came up with a 2.15 Dia.bore x .312 deep bore, and a 1.51 balancer dia (shaft dia).. Timken/National has a seal that is close, 1.5 shaft x2.125 die bore and .313 bore depth. will pick one up and see if it will work. I will post the results. The seal outer diameter may be too small at 2.125 Vice 2.15. We'll see.

You may be able to make a shim for the OD out of a beverage (your choice) can. Or some sealers might be tough enough to fill that small gap.
