I have occasionally come across W-1 float bowl covers that have had a small hole drilled in them. I've attached photos of the latest one. Hole is just behind the gas inlet fitting. Any idea why you would drill a hole into the chamber where the gas is? I've always thrown these covers away figuring they were useless or is there some purpose behind this??

The hole was drilled later by a back yard mechanic.....it does not belong there. It usually was done to improve hot weather starting whch it did not do. The vent would throw off the main carburetor feature which was balanced air flow.
