Got a 47 fleetmaster. My original reg. part number is 1118201. I obtained a nos reg. part number 1118242. They look EXACTLY the same, but what really is the difference? Will it work on my car?
Thanks!!!! Fleet47

Hi fleetmas47, The 1118201 regulator is the correct regulator for your car if it has the 1102667 35 Amp generator. The 1118242 regulator is the Cadillac unit for the 1102693/4 36-amp generators. Due to the disparity in rated RPMs the Cadillac regulator is not recommended.

Forgot to mention. Check the numbers stamped on the end frame of the 1118242 and see if it is an early regulator (P) ground. That number is in the transition period when Cadillac changed from (+) ground to (-) ground.

Dean, If you need a new regulator and your car is to be a "driver" I would recommend buying a new one.The Delco number is D601.I purchased one last year thru my dealer connections for about $35.00.Thought new would be better than one that has laid around for 50 years. The new version has the cover screws at the outter flange rather than going thru the cover. The part number in 1947 was 1118201 but changed to 1118301 in 1950 (method of adjustment changed). So if you go NOS either number will be OK.They are also available thru NAPA etc.

I recently purchased a new regulator for the 52, got it from NAPA, they had to order it in overnight but no handling cost. It was a bit pricey but less than paying handling charges that are routine with most mail order operations.

Thanks Ray, and gene. Guess I will start looking for the correct one. My car will be a "DRIVER" as I do not desire a car that Im affraid to touch, or have others touch. I want my car to be fun!!! But so far "ALL" of the parts I have used have been NOS, and I am a DIE-HARD PURIST!!!! So I will start the hunt for a NOS 1118201. Again you guys, thank you very much for all your help. I know I can always count on you guys!!!
