I found this aftermarket item some years ago. Debating actually using it as it may help keep the rockers from wearing where the it meets the valve tip. It was made by the Felt-Oiler Mfg. Co. in Kansas City Missouri.
They were originally intended to soak up valve train noise Would actually stop oil from moving around to the valve tips. I never trusted the felt one for fear of them coming apart, I did have the canvas coverd version in my solid lifter cars.

This is not the big felt pad that you soak with oil and lay on top. These deliver oil from the rocker shaft to the tip of the rocker. Look at the picture again.
OK, I see that now. Still would be worried thatthe felt could break-up and cause damage.
Yes maybe but Chev used felt wicks on the other end so maybe not too much an issue. The instructions state to adjust the end so that the tip of the rocker just touches the felt when at the top of its travel. I guess to allow the deposit of oil to the rocker without wrecking the felt. Aa interesting concept.
The late 20s 4 cylinders used a felt ring at the top of the push rod to oil the intersection with the rocker. Also a felt pad that laid on the top of the valve train. They were manually oiled. '29-'31 six cylinders used a felt wick to aid in oiling the push rod cup. The had oil pumped to the rocker shafts.
Know a few folks that have added felt pads available from part suppliers to sit on the top of the valve trains. The pads came apart and plugged the oil pumps. Not a pleasant experience. Apparently the pads were not made correctly!

Yes but it looks like they relied on misting to get to the valve stem tip. These aftermarket oilers are supposed to supply oil there. I've seen the big flat felt pads and wouldn't consider them for a six.
