When I do not start my 47 Fleetmaster with the 216 for a few weeks I always have to prime the carb with gas to get it started. Once I prime it once or twice it starts fine and runs fine. It seems like it loses it prime or the carb dries out or something if I do not start it more often. My 69 Camaro with the 235 six cylinder has the same issue. Anyone have any suggestions??

Very commom....todays gas, ethanol or not, evaporates fast. I have the same experianc how eer I crank over the engine with the starter to get the gas moving.

I have had similar experiences. If my '37 or '33 set for too long it takes quite a bit of cranking to get them started but they usually will start reasonably well with out priming them. My '48 used to be terrible to start and I almost always had to prime it through the carb. I finally bought a new fuel pump and now it can set for an extended time and it still starts right up! I am thinking about getting new fuel pumps for the other 2 cars. My theory is that the valves in the pump leak the fuel back to the tank and then the fuel pump has to pump fuel all of the way from the tank to the carburetor before they can start, and if the pump is weak it takes a long time to get the gas to the carb
.
