At the Portland Antique Auto Swap Meet this year I found what I thought was a 28, to 30 transmission. It has the horseshoe pattern to bolt to the flywheel cover, and the torque tube type ball receiver on the back. The shift tower looked right. However I did not find a bowtie, or a year cast into it. The price was $15 so I thought I would gamble on it. Mike L's little 28 roadster has some trans problems so I thought some spare parts might be a good idea. I looked closer at it the other day and it does not have the casting lands for the parking brake. It has a D in a circle. Casting number in the side of the case is 590204. Tried to look it up in my 29 to 34 parts book but it does not have that number. Any one able to identify this trans? Could it be a replacement from a different manufacturer, or a later replacement for an earlier application? It has 2 grooves in the input shaft like a later saginaw.
My 1926 (Superior V series) still has the top mounted parking brake. I think the change to the style mounted on the side of the transmission case was in 1927 (AA series). The case casting number on mine is 950204. Tom
Thanks Tom, The lower part of the case looks the same but the shifting tower is the later style without the linkage rails sticking out. And the casting in the picture is the same as the one I have. So someone has combined two different transmissions to make one
