I,m thinking of changing to 3.70 gearing in rear end on My 39,They are out of a 53 stick are there any problems with doing this?
Will I need bushing puller to remove bushing from torque tube?

Robert,

This shows how it's done:

vcca.org/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/334876/1936_Chevy_3.55_rear_gear_conv

The bushings are pulled with simple hardware store items. If you're going to do that job why not use a highway friendly 3.55 and enjoy a realistic cruising speed and reduced noise?

The 1937 - 1939 gears are unique to only those years. If you want a simple bolt in solution, you will need to find the 3.73 ring and pinion from a 1937, 1938 or 1939 Master model. This is the easiest solution if you have a 4.11 currently.

If you have the capability for machine work, Brino has a writeup on installing a 3.55.

Robert,,
If your 1939 is a Master 85 you already have a 3.73 ratio (which is just ideal for a '39). If it is a Master Deluxe you have a 4.22 which is fine for cruising up to 55 MPH.
The 1937-1939 gears and housing and torque tube fit only those years, 1953-1954 parts will not fit.
I you have a Master Deluxe finding the parts from a Master--Master 85 is necessary.

Yes, than a Master with leaf front springs will be a doner car. Get the torque tube from the U joint back and the center section of the differential from a 1937-1939. You don't want the banjo housing or axle shafts.
The 3.73 rato made my '39 able to cruise comfortably at 65+ MPH with a healthy increase in gas mileage.
If the speedometer gears are not changed (hard to find) your speedometer will be 10% slow.

I know where a 37 and is a standard had leaf springs, front end has been remove,Have been trying to work a swap for center section and speedometer gear,So far no go can't convince him car would sell just as well with change and he would have those Dollars in his pocket,He owns car that is just my opinion,Will keep trying though.
I owned a 39 4 door in 1954,Gears and engine had been changed by previous owners Dad he was a mechanic,That car would really go,but to many doors.
