One member has asked if this tour is on the real Route 66. All of Route 66 in Kansas and the best alignments of Route 66 in Oklahoma from the Kansas state line near Missouri to the Texas panhandle state line. Even some of Missouri from Joplin to the Kansas state line. Best part of the road itself is the 9 foot alignment between Miami and Afton, yes, the Route in that area started out as only 9 feet wide, we will drive on it. Another interesting segment is rounded concrete curves from Calumet to Weatherford. We'll visit many Route 66 iconic sites, venues, Route 66 museums, car museums. It is a lot to see in one week.

This looks like a good route and will be a nice ride. Spent some time in Stroud, OK airport when flying the US Army Parachute Team back in 70-75. We used it as a base for training the competition team.

Here are a few hints for you fellows to have an extra good time.

a. Have the missus make you some fried chicken to take along with you.

b. Get extra water jugs. Use one of those Desert water bags. The air will cool the water inside and you can have a refreshing dring once in a while whilst your buddies are trying to repair one of the broken down cars. Probably a 37/38. Just saying. hood

c. Carry an aircompressor and a generator to run it. If no one wants to share the load then take it all yourself and then don't share. That'll learn em. Will too!

d. Take a boom-box and some good CDs. The repair on the 37/38 will take much longer than anticipated. Might as well take along a couple novels, too. And your computer and some movies. It might take even longer than for water to boil. Think about it. Thank me later.

f. And most important, have an agreement amoung all of you guys that none of you take the women along. (There are pleanty of bull riding establishments along the route. (See "Urban Cowboy", get it?)

Have a good time. If you listen to me, you will. Trouble is there will always be one who - come hell or high water - will insist on taking his missus along. Will too! Oh well. It was just a thought anyway.

You're welcome.

Charlie computer

BTW: Please don't show this to the missus. Of course I'm just messing with you but you never know. computer

How about the years? Might be interesting to see if I can keep up with my skateboard?

As long as your car can maintain the posted speed limits you'll be OK.

A VCCA member from up north said they will come if gas prices are not too high. Good News, traditionally OKLAHOMA has the cheapest gasoline in the nation. Fill up in Tulsa for the 2nd cheapest gas in the nation then fill up in Oklahoma City where gas is always cheaper then Tulsa. Also, Real gas (non ethanol) is easy to find in Tulsa and even easier to find in Oklahoma City.
