A fellow VCCA member (no computer) has asked for help. He has a 1958 Impala, found that there was water in the trunk and felt it was coming in around the weather stripping. He has installed new weather stripping but still has water appearing in the trunk, any suggestions as to where it may be coming from?

Possibly the rear window. I've had that same problem with several different cars that I've owned. :( :( :( :(

Every Camaro I've ever owned (and I've had 7 or 8 of the &@#$%# things, I've lost count) had a leaky rear window. It'll ruin a trunk in short order!

If its coming from the rear window he would need to have the window removed and the body inspected for rust thru.This happens under the rubber channel.Should crawl in the trunk with a flash light while a second person floods the rear half of the car with water.If its a convertible it can enter around the top to body area.There are drains that "help" to carry the water away here.

Hi glyn,
Another often overlooked area on the '58 for waterleakage into the trunk - is the trunk fit.
If the trunk lid is sitting higher than the body - the preload on the weatherstrip may not be satisfactory.
Shimming the trunk hinges will bring the lid down.
Best bet - climb in the trunk and have a buddy use the hose on the exterior areas. You will be able to follow the water flow.
Here's another tip. If you are having difficulty with finding the leakage. Close all the doors and windows, turn the interior fan speed to HIGH.
Use soapy water on the exterior areas of concern - and get set for a scene from Lawrence Welk. Well, hopefully not that bad - but she will blow bubbles where the leakage is taking place.

Thanks for the tips, I will tell my friend about them this weekend. I have been in a trunk before but had not even thought about making a bubble machine!

That's fantastic! From now on, I'm going to wash my cars with extra soapy water and with the interior fan "on"! Thanks Bowtie!
I have a leak in the cabin (rear floors). I think it could be the window rubber seals.
