I just bought a 1932 delux sedan that runs great but the horns don't work. I jumped them and the passenger side barely makes noise drivers side none at all. I tried turning adjusting screw in back of horns with no change. The guy I bought the car off of said he just had the horns rechromed and they just needed adjusted. Any one have any suggestions? Also a little play in the stearing can this be adjusted or shimmed? Ron

The steering box has three adjustments. Check your 1932 shop manual for instructions on how to adjust the steering box.

The horn unit may need to be cleaned and/or repaired. The diaphragm inside may be rusty so best to remove the trumpet and see what the inside looks like. Clean things up and then try adjusting. How much play do you have in the steering wheel?

I cleaned one that had some rust around the edge of the diaphragm but still no luck. Is there someone who repairs these horns? I will need to get a 1932 owners manual to adjust the stearing box.

If you have a VOM or similar you can check for resistance between the horn terminals. A functioning horn should test to be close to a direct short. If not then you will need to find out why or send it to someone that can check or repair it. I don't know of any repair instructions. Most of us have experimented enough to repair most of them.

I would check them but will not be available for nearly a month.

I may have you check them for me if I don't have any luck. Horns are not my strong point. I probably will wait till the car show season is over anyway Its just frustrating not having the horns working Ron

Still having horn problems, cleaned and adjusted them as best as I could ,they would work when I tested them with 6 volt charger hooked to them but not loud. I put them on the car and they only make a clicking sound. We hooked the hot wire to new battery still they only click when I push the horn button. Anyone have any suggestions? I am baffeled! Ron

Check the resistance to ground on the wiring that goes through the horn button. Needs to be very close to zero.

Horn problems continue, I ran a wire from the battery to horn system then grounded the system with a wire. I have good spark and bypassed the horn button but the horns still only click. I am assuming the problem is with the horns. Is there someone who repairs these horns or can they be repaired? Does someone sell these horns? Appriciate any help. Ron

Please let us know the results as it's been a couple years since he did some horns for a 31 for another member.

If the horn is working when hooked up to six volt battery but not on the car it probably is not getting enough power I have a 1932 coupe that had the same problem it would barley blow the left horn and the right wouldnt do anything but click. the contact in the horn button couldn't handle the load so I bought a six volt relay wired it up and hid it in the frame rail, make sure your wires to the horns are in good shape no scotch locks butt connectors etc. every connection is a place for corrosion and current loss.
