"The 2017 Middle Meet was held in Des Moines Iowa June 11-14. Was a wonderful meet and the high point was a visit to the car collection of Dennis Albaugh's cars in Ankeny, Iowa. There are approximately 180 Chevrolet's and consists of at least one year convertible of each year one was produced. The 1957 convertible collection has a convertible in every color available and even more than one in some colors. Also several were fuel injected. Al the other models also had examples of the rare top of the line Super Sport Etc. models. All cars were in prime condition and dustless. The collection is not open to the public so the VCCA members were privileged to view the.

My '57 Nomad is parked in front of the building, the cars housed in the lower level which had an exposed beyond the house area. The grounds also contains a nine hole gulf course.

All that attended we simply amazed by the number of cars and pedal cars, gas pumps, etc.

The Aqua 1958 convertible was restored and owned by the late Gary Halford, a long time respected VCCA member."

The collection began in 1998 with the purchase of a 1957 convertible. Then was intended to be a collection of 1955-1957 models only.
From there is just GREW TO THE LARGEST COLLECTION OF CHEVROLETS IN THE COUNTRY carbana

The Dennis Albaugh story is a rags to riches saga. Dennis was told by his father that convertibles were too dangerous so he couldn't have one. Guess it didn't carry forward to today.

There are two vehicles in the collection that I restored. A 1932 Chevy Roadster Pickup and 1919 FB Touring. I have seen the collection several times and am still impressed each time.

tHE RED 1974 CONVERTIBLE BELONGED TO ONE OF OUR REGIONS MEMBERS ALSO.....it seemed he was always generous with his offers if it was a model he wanted.

The last picture was taken at the Court
House square in Winterset Iowa, John Wayne's birth place.

My "able assistant" took the pictures AND was my assistant on the trip. I originally was going by myself in my modern mini van (a Chevrolet of course). He offered to acompany me so I could take the '57 as I feel it is not safe for me at my age (84) and condition to travel that distance by myself in an old car. Also it is difficult for me to lift my mobility scooter into the back of the Nomad.
He also did 80% of the driving so it was a real treat to watch the country side for a change.

Many thanks to Packer Land Region member Jeff Pahl for listening to me talk for five days and making my trip a pleasure.

Nice pictures Bill. Thanks. Gary Halford's '58 Impala was one of the most stunning cars I have ever seen. The color and trim combinations were perfectly blended to attract the eye. I am glad it's in a nice place.

Gene's Nomad is another! Dusk Pearl is one of my favorite colors along with '65's one off color, Evening Orchid. Congrats on a successful meet. kewl
