I may be looking at an engine change in my '48 as it may have a cracked block (found antifreeze in the motor oil). If I do have to get another engine I would like to put a 235 in it. Tell me what changes/modifications/etc. would have to done to get the 235 installed? Thanks.

If installing a newer 235,say'58-'62 whatever you do, don't swap front mount plate, just drill the holes for motor mounts in the newer engines plate instead. don't follow "Simple Swap for Better Sixes" recommendation there. don't ask me how I know! stupid

You might want to consider a 261 instead of the 235. Unless it is an early 235 you'll likely have the same modifications to make and end up without the full-pressure for the oil filter and less horsepower. Mate that sucker (261) with a 3:55 AND GET ON DOWN THE ROAD!

Rebuilt '61 235 in in my '48 now. Waiting to install the wiring harness, a little body work and interior work to do and should be good to go.

55 to 62 motors have a longer water pump and it sits lower in the block, shortened pumps and adapters are made but I would try to find a 53 or 54 motor as it will be easier.

I think the 53 and 54 235s are quite different. I would go for a 54 with no pump modification necessary.

Good luck,
Charlie

The 1953 Power Glide and all 1954 engines are bascially the same.

the '61 235 cu in engine is in my car now and runs smoothly. I hit 65 on a stretch of interstate this past Saturday, I think I could have gone faster but decided not to..65 is all I want to do.

My '61 235 mounted up beautifully in my '48. Did not have to drill any holes but did have to move the radiator forward a little to keep the fan from hitting it. Runs like a champ, was bored 40 over when rebuilt...Mickey
