I had over a quarter of a tank of gas evaporate from my 37 over the winter so I presume the vent is constantly open and todays gas is probably more to blame.

I know gas does evaporate but during the cooler times at a slower rate. A 1/4 tank seems to be a very high quantity for very warm temps though so I would suspect there may be a small leak contributing to the issue.

Be difficult for that much gas to evaporate through a pin hole in the cap. If there was a leak I'd think you'd likely smell it and see residue/staining as the loss would be a few gallons.

Maybe the gauge isn't reading correctly now or when put away in the fall? Maybe the sending unit is a bit worn right around that particular level so in the fall it read high and then after sitting it made a better connection and read low. Maybe the ground to the sending unit developed a bad connection over the winter?

Ethanol in the fuel can mess with the cork floats if they are original so maybe the floats are fuel logged?

A 1937 pickup does not vent through a pinhole in the cap. There is a 1/4 (or so) vent tube that lets fumes from the top of the tank exit the cab through the floor pan under the tank. It is a one year only arrangement, as far as I know.
All that being said, 1/4 tank is lots of fuel to lose in cold weather.

Speaking of gas tanks, mine has been inactive for awhile while I am doing some work on the truck and I also have lost gas from my 37. It prompted me to put some Stable in the tank and now the fuel line to the fuel pump is blocked. I may have to pull the tank to clean it. Something I have never done.
