My speedometer cable is leaking where it screws into the side of the powerglide transmission. But the area is so cramped that I can't get any kind of wrench in there to see if it will tighten up a bit.
Any suggestions on how to try to turn the outer ring on the transmission cable?

If it leaks at that point the O ring on the fitting that goes in the case is defective. Probably as had as a carp.

Yep... and I don't want to remove the tranny just to replace it.
I was hoping that someone else has been in this predicament before.

If it is a seal leak I would suggest adding some Trans X to the fluid. It swells seals. I have had excellant results with it over the years on both automatic transmissions and power steering leaks.
