I em looking for a replacement seat for my 36 truck. Are there any modern seats that will work. Something to be found at my local parts salvage yard?

My 1936 truck seat is split so there are two lower seats and one back rest all the way across the back. Springs can be re-tensioned. On the lower cushion seat the corners have weaker springs than the main part so that part of the seat flexes as you get in and out. There are metal parts that project into the seat bucket. These hold the bottom seats in place. They do have some play and are not real tight fitting so they can be lifted out from the front for easy access into the storage area under the seats. Sometimes this projection breaks off. This can be solved with a bolt, two nuts and some washers (spacers). Place a nut on the bolt and adjust until the bolt hangs below the seat the proper distance. Remove place washer poke through hole and place washer then nut on top, tighten. They can be re-covered real easy. Small "C" clamps hook onto the rail on the bottom of the seat. (I am not talking about "Hog Rings".) Pressing the fabric into the rail holds it to the seat. Good luck on your seat problem. Note: the seat back is adjusted from the bottom. Push it forwards until desired distance. Block in place.

1937 and 1938 truck seats are exactly the same as your 1936 truck. A seat rebuild may be necessary. I had mine rebuilt by a good local furniture builder and upholster. He tied the springs together, and wrapped the seat springs with poly ester (both of the sisters, Polly and Esther) and they are like new. Nothing wrong with the original seats after a treatment to the modern day upholster.

1938 passenger side cushion is different because of the filler neck tunnel for the gas tank. I am not aware of other differences and have not checked the Master Parts Catalog.

I have "Parts Seats - Replacements" in my 37. By 1938 and on, the seats that were sold as parts or replacement seats all had the filler neck tunnel. That way, they fit all the 36 (Low Cab)-38 trucks.

Rather than start a new thread I'll ask here.

How do you remove the seat to reveal the storage area?

Our '36 truck has a one piece seat.
I'm thinking you push the front, towards the back then lift up?
Thought I'd ask before I try. I've never seen it done.

Mark, that is exactly how you remove the bottom seat cushion. My seat has metal tubing on each side and the front to hold it in place on the seat pedestal.

Was able to remove the seat as described.
Inside was a can of WD-40, brake fluid, duct tape and a small bag of tools.

Was really hoping to see a hand crank in there.

Sometimes these get rusted in place or the tabs holding then in place get broken or worn out. I find that on the broken/worn out tabs; I drilled a hole in the base of the tap and put a bolt and two nuts; one on the top of the tab and one on the bottom. This makes it a snug fit in the bucket on the bottom. It also allows quick and easy removal so you can access the storage area below.
