I'm driving the 33 Chevy Master and get a couple of puffs of smoke from under the dash. I looked and see the metal tubing that surrounds the ignition wire that goes through the firewall has maybe shorted the ignition wire. Sometime in the last 84 years someone pulled the switch and tubing apart and it's missing pieces. I think I will try to remove the wire from the tube and run new plastic coated wire through the tube to the coil.

I have not seen the electrolok setup so I could well be wrong but to me that looks like the ignition switch has been changed out to a later style which may well be a major cause of your problem.

A little more info on your ELectrolux/Electrolock problem. I think it is reasonable to assume that the wiring on this component should be replaced, just like the wiring harness after a set number of years. In many cases this could be as little as 40 years depending on whether the vehicle has been exposed to NORMAL usage, where it was stored, and whether it had ever been serviced.

By the looks of your dash wiring you can see that it has been updated through the years. Probably, the remaining original wire, should be replaced.

Good luck, Mike

P.S. Here is a picture of the wire harness under my headliner before I replaced it a few weeks ago. 41 Headliner

Please disregard the term Electrolux, which is a brand of vacuum cleaners, in my above post.

Thanks, Mike

Mike,

Not so fast there, good buddy. dance2

You made a great mistake right there and we are going to think of you as the electrolux man from now on and throughout eternity. dance

Yep, every time we see the name Mike Buller, from now on, we will instantly create the mental picture of you wearing your wife's frilly aporn and a-vacuuming the living room. Will too! willy

Sorry about that, Agrin
