I have dug through the layers of paint and determined this Cabriolet was painted Driftwood Smoke with Lindbergh Blue molding and windshield face. Reading through available material it seems the wheels should be Lindbergh Blue as well but I see no mention of stripe color for this combination. Anyone know? Thanks

Is your 1929 cabriolet Canadian or USA? If your cabriolet is USA, the stripe was Mt. Ash Scarlet.

Hi, it's a Canadian car built right here in Oshawa. Found the colours on the windshield post covers. Blue over the smoke.

Yes. My Sedan actually has 1928 colours and overall paint scheme. My under standing is that they were prevented from using 29 paint schemes so,as not to compete with US production. So I guess the answer may lie with stripe color used in1928 with driftwood smoke/Lindbergh blue combo?

I doubt your paint codes have anything at all to do with USA based paint codes. Oshawa sourced their own paint from Canadian suppliers.

Yes absolutely they got their paint from local suppliers. While codes and mixes varied the names used still most likely stayed in line with US GM designations. So the question I have is what stripe color for a 1928 car with driftwood smoke body and Lindbergh blue molding?

The listings that I have for most of the Canadian paint combinations for 1931 and 1932 use different names for many of the paint colors and are not the same as the USA versions. Since the colors that you have are either USA colors or Canadian colors with the same names as those used in the USA, I would go with the Mt. Ash Scarlet stripe.

Colours I have seen from '32's through '52 are all vastly different. Look at the green on JackKennedy's '32 roadster. "Apple Green" ... a lot brighter than what was used on American cars. Almost like a John Deere tractor...
Pin stripe colours are different as well. For '51, my Oshawa built Aldershot Grey car has a Crofton Ivory stripe. I believe the two USA gray offerings came with either a black or a red stripe...

My under standing is that they were prevented from using 29 paint schemes so,as not to compete with US production. I doubt this would be true... there would be no competition. Canadian cars were sold in Canada and American cars in the USA... Why would they be competing? For exporting to foreign countries, the competing factor would be price and tariffs, not paint colour.

The Mt. Ash Scarlet sounds reasonable. I haven't looked into later years regarding colours. Stated another way is maybe GM implemented new color combinations on US production first before using it in other production countries? At any rate my as found original 1929 sedan has a paint scheme and colours that perfectly match what shows in original GM literature as 1928 sedan colours and scheme. Confused me at first as most pictures I have seen are of US cars and mine was obviously different. I am only talking 1929. Thanks all for your input. Always helpful and informative. Regards

Someone to contact about Canadian 1929 colours would be Gary VanDyken from Charing Cross Ontario. He owns a 1929, and may have paint info.

How would you find the original colors of the car and the paint scheme used?

There are several site that list typical paint schemes for older cars. Most list US production. I was lucky with my Sedan as it had original paint so no guessing. My Cabriolet had enough original paint underneath on trim pieces to determine colours and to compare to the listings.
