So we got rain in Phoenix and drove the car for the first time in rain, so I turned the wiper knob to turn the wipers on, we'll mine went up and stayed there without coming back down. Not until I turned the switch back did it go back down. So the million dollar question is, is it broken or do I have to keep playing with the knob each time I want it to change direction? And where in the world is the three speed wiper adjustment switch also?!? just messing with you all, still getting use kick starting the starter.

The leather paddle in the wiper motor is dry, grease stcuk and dry and needs lubrication and cleaning.
This is what works 90% of the time. Remove the wiper vacuum hose from the manifold. Imerse end of vacuum hose in some automatic transmission fluid. Move wipers back and forth by hand. This will suck the fluid into the wiper motor. Let stand overnight. If it dosent help completely repeat.
If that dosen't do it the motor cover will need to be removed and greased.

Here is a little more info from past post. It seems some of the pictures are missing so the article needs some updating.

It is best to avoid taking the motor apart. Lot of little pieces to try to get back in the right place.
I have/had a selection of new motors. In order to work they needed to be taken apart and cleaned as the gobs of factory installed grease had hardened. Thats what happens afer 70 years.

Remember the new one will be over 60 years old and will need to be taken apart and old hard grease removed and re-greased. The Chevrolet part number was 4147618

FYI. For those of you who might be wondering what the Wiperman does when he rebuilds a '42-'48 wiper motor. Besides taking it apart and cleaning and greasing he removes the 1/4" inlet cover and replaces it with a solid cover. What that inlet is for is to hold the wipers in the "park" position. It does this by continually sucking air in through the air inlet. This is actually a small vacuum leak to the engine. At least this is what I understood from his explanation.

If you read the old thread you will see a picture of mine installed with the 1/4" removed and the switch inlet caped off.

Note: that 5/16" might be 3/8", don't remember.

Who is the wiper man? Better off sending to him if that's a possibility.

What year is your car? I have a vacuum wiper motor that has been repaired. It was on my '48 sedan but I converted my car to electric wipers and no longer need the motor. I would sell it to you for a reasonable price.M Holton

If you scroll up to my answer to this post you will see that Photobucket has blocked the images I posted. Likewise, it has blocked all the images of my posts since 2012. I have yet to decide what to do, but have sent them over 6 emails asking for them to contact me. I have only received robot responses.

I have only used Photobucket for hosting my pictures to our chat site (1096 pictures using .4 GB of space). This is the email I sent:

I am very disillusioned by Photobucket’s choice to no longer host third party pictures. I use pictures to better explain and understand repair questions. I am a visual learner. I have tried to initiate contact with Photobucket but so far have gotten nothing but a robot response requesting me to annually pay $400 for a one-year license. Here is what I have written:

I have used my Photobucket account for several years for only 3rd party hosting. I post pictures to the VCCA chat site. The site provides information to Chevy car hobbyists and no one benefits financially from my posted pictures. In a year, I post about 100 pictures that are used to explain repair processes used in restoration of historic vehicles. Because of the nature of many of the topics discussed the saying, "a picture is worth a thousand words" is true. Especially, for people like me who are visual learners. Please consider other solutions to 3rd party hosting besides a $400 dollar a year fee. Why not grandfather in previous posted pictures, or have a onetime fee for each posted picture. Because of the historic importance of the pictures I post, I would gladly pay $1.00 for each of my 3rd party postings.
Please let me know when you will be erasing my posted pictures from the VCCA web site.

Thanks, Mike Buller

P.S. Why did you not let me and fellow VCCA posters know several years ago that you did not want us to post photos to the VCCA website? If you would have, we could have made other arrangements. Why did you not email us with a deadline when you intended to impose this change?

Follow up email to Robot response:

Please personally respond to my questions. A generic robot response is not appreciated and belittles the professional standards which I assume Photobucket should wish to convey.

Thanks, Mike

P.S. I am interested in the options others use to post pictures.
I do not want to pay $400 for an annual subscription
