I just acquired an original 34 Olds radio and was curious if there is anyone who converts the insides to modern FM radio while retaining the same dash mounted remote knobs.
Thanks, Ted

The answer is a qualified YES! However, before you have it done, talk to at least 2, or 3, fellows that have had their radios converted. To change it back to simple AM will cost more than the conversion.

I do NOT do the conversions.

Hi Ted;

The answer is yes and I do them. Several things need to be known. Have you converted the 34 to 12 volts. Does the on off volume and tone control work? Is the radio currently working?

There is 2 ways to do it 1) if the radio is still six volts without intent to convert to 12. We can restore the radio if not working and add a chip which would give you am fm and aux to play cd satellite MP3 Iphone etc through. If working then we just add the chip.You will only be able to use the existing set up of speakers as no amplification is added.

2) With some removal of electronics we install a digitally mastered tuner and amp contained on a pc which will give you 180 watts with the capability of using any number of speakers from 1-4. It will play in stereo and features such as bluetooth and USB may be added. If the 34 is 6 volts then an inverter would be needed as the pc will only operate at 12 volts.

No modification of face or fit is made in either conversion.
