I have successfully jumped many 6 volt cars, including my own from 12 volt sources with never a problem. I usually try to have an assistant to help me in the process. First, I make sure all lights an accessories are turned off. Next, have your helper connect the 12 volt source to you battery pos to pos and neg t neg. I then engage the starter and while the engine is cranking I turn on the ignition. Instruct you assistant to disconnect the jumper as soon as the engine fires, and there should be no damage to the 6 volt electrical system. It has always worked for me! The best solution is to always maintain the 6 volt system so you don't have to jump it!

"The best solution is to always maintain the 6 volt system so you don't have to jump it!" Flip and Gene, You are masters of the obvious. Are too! I doubt you two ever parked out near the woods with "little Suzy" and had your pleasure dampened by the constant and nagging thought of "will this old car start when I get ready to take her home. ("Little Suzy not the car. ) Anyway, the thrill of that old sucker a-turning over and starting is better than the finest orgasm you ever experienced. You two really must have lead unadventurous lives. (Read on) Before you went out on a date you always borrowed Dad's new car rather than drive you own heap. I can see you pulling up to her house like Richie Cunningham on "Happy Days." Of course you could have gone over your old 39 just before each date, checking out all the battery connections and topping off with distilled water; pulling the starter to look for worn brushed, bushings, change a field or two, and cleaning the armature and commutator. Where is the thrill of adventure? I bet you wouldn't even play the radio when out there with the crickets and mosquitos. When "Little Suzy would say "Gene (Flip), I sure would like some music whilst we are just a-sitting here a-waiting to spot deer with your Captain Marvel Special Flashlight." You probably replied "No Suzy, it may drain the car's battery a mite and you know that I am a always cognizant of "never having to jump the battery." Now shut up and move on back over to your side of the car. Mercy, some date you are." Gene, I'll bet you and Flip were first in your class, wore taped up glasses, and had a pocket protector. Double mercy! Best, Charlie

Charlie, you make a number of good points. Isn't using the hand crank the alternate starting method when the battery is low? Besides, if the car won't start in the woods, you're stuck with Suzy a little longer. Cheers, Dean

Charlie, Despite the audacious description I respectfully consider it BS. All you had to do when in the woods with Suzy was park on a hill or downslope. Once rolling pop the clutch in second and it was running. If no hill then you had to teach Suzy how to push. Not a fun experience.

I would be interested in a 6V jumper as well. Let me know when they are available.

A representative from the MaxxStart company contacted me after I sent them an email. They are doing research to see if the 6volt jumper is a viable product. If you would like to be included in their research, send me your email address and I will forward it to them. I would love to see this product become a reality! Doug

Best, Charlie Yes I did park up with Little Suzy in 1964 when I Got my '39 and I always made sure I was parked facing downhill 'cos 2 hours of Elvis etc on the all bells and whistles 6 tube superheterodyne would certainly dispose of the battery charge and her father was someone to be truly feared!

I don't know why you would want a 6 volt jumper. I have used a 12 volt for years with no problems. If there is a starting problem the 12 volt will spin it over musch faster and it will start much more quickly. One of our members has a 1947 with a 12 volt system. It still has the 6 volt starter and has been performing well for over 10 years on 12 volts.

I have started 6 volt cars with 12 volt jumpers for years with no problems, just make sure the 6 volt lights etc. are turned off.
