Looking for some information related to the hood latch assembly that bolts onto the hood with the pin and cup assembly that hooks into the latch assembly on the radiator cowl assembly. Can anyone tell me if that assembly would have come new painted black or if it was painted the color of the car? I have it off now and want to paint it correctly.

If my memory is accurate those parts would have been zinc or cadmium plated. I am thinking the more whitish to light gray matte type surface of zinc is what I am remembering instead of the more shiny cadmium.

It's actually gray phosphate. This process was used on the hood hinges & springs, upper & lower latch. The spring on the catch is the gloss black but not shiny....Joe
