31 Chev - I have removed and rebuilt the carb, and will rebuild the fuel pump next. There was sediment in the filter bowl of the fuel pump. I think I should blow some air back through the line from the fuel pump to the tank. The tank has a bit of sediment in the bottom - dust like stuff from what I can see with a flashlight.
Question - if all the fuel from the tank to the fuel pump, inside the fuel pump and in the line from pump to carb is gone, will the fuel pump pull fuel from the tank all the way up and then into the carb? Do I need to add fuel to the lines somehow?
Thanks in advance for help!

If the pump is in good shape it will pull gas from the tank. That is unless there is enough crud in the tank to plug the line.

If your gas tank has sediment in the bottom you should remove your tank and boil it out. Having a clean gas tank is very important.

Providing all the pipes and other parts are in reasonable condition most fuel pumps that operate will draw fuel from the tank though a poor condition pump may be a bit slower than a good condition pump.

I would prim the carb. with gas or starter fluid. It will save some on the battery.
