Firstly welcome to Chatter.
Now to answer your question, I will guess (and that is all it is) but I suspect it was a leather strap though I would think somewhere near the middle height of the door. There are others more knowledgeable on the 33 trucks than me.

There should be a mounting screw socket in the wood above the door. It will have threads and an extended seat for the large hole in the flat strap. The other end of the strap has a part that fits into the plate in the top of the door and slides in its slot. A spring helps to cushion the shock when the door fully opens. That same system is used in passenger cars.

Thanks for you response, I could not find any sign of mounting screws in the wood above the door, do you know where I can get a flat strap and the other parts needed?

If this is the same system used on passenger cars what years should I be looking at? I have no idea what it looks like,I only get info on the leather stop when i do a search, does it go by a different name? wish I had a picture to go by.

If you have the owners, repair manuals and a parts book with a 1933 or few year later original publication date you will be able to determine what parts were installed on your truck and other year trucks and cars. Some of those are available as reprints. The Filling Station carries many reprints.

I am not home so can't look up the information.
