I have a glass bowl vacuum fuel pump which I was going to fit to a '58 235, but when I read the label on the bag it says it fits 37-51. Having a look at it , it looks exactly the same as the 58 pump( except for the vacuum part ) but the in/out fuel lines are in different places (easy to change by rotating the top bowl housing). The actuating lever is same shape & in the same position too. CofT 40's has them listed as seperate pumps as well. Is the only difference between the early & pumps the in/out line positions? (And yes,I do need the vacuum part , it is fitted to a '48 with vacuum wipers)

A minor change was made to the fuel pump in 1952. The inlet fitting location was slightly changed in its direction due to the new side motor mount bracket on the 1952 passenger car engines. At that time GM discontinued the 1937-1951 pump and ofered as slightly off-set fitting so the 1952 pump could be used on prior egines with out bending the fuel line.
That makes the 1937-1954 pumps the same.
In 1955 the glass bowl was eleminated and the pump resigned and its pressure increase by about 1 pound. This pump is often sold for a 1937 and up replacement.

The 1937 pump will "fit" and work and on a 1962 and vise-versa.

Thanks Chev Nut! And here's a tip for anyone at the bottom of the world- The Australian
Holden Red 6 motor fuel pump is a bolt-in replacement for the Chevy 6 , the in/out fittings have to moved by rotating the top cover.

I have started on the engine for my 38, when I pulled the fuel pump I thought the was a similarity but had only done a 10ft (pumps 10ft apart) comparison.
