Just returned from the VCCA Area 8 Eastern Regional Meet held in conjunction with the GM Nationals at Carlisle Pa. Great job by Irv & Becky Steinly and members of the Keystone Region. Was having our 1970 Chevelle LS5, 4 speed convertible judged. The engine compartment judge challenged the chrome air filter lid as being incorrect. He claimed it should be mat black finish. The air filter itself is a single snorkel, with an exposed air filter element. The hood is the cowl induction option. The judge referenced the 1970 Chevelle with a 396 c.i., engine parked next to us, as having the correct lid. He challenged us to provide documentation for our chrome lid which I can't seem to find. Any input as to the correct application. Thank you. Hank.

Hank, Looking through some info I have on Chevelles I came across this in the Chevelle SS Restoration Guide 1964-1972 by Paul A. Herd..."The LS5 454 engine used a single air horn air cleaner pt# 6485252 painted gloss black including the lid."
This would make sense as 1969 Camaros with cowl induction hood also had the air cleaner lid painted black. I hope someone else out there has some other documentation. Tim

That was the way I've known it to be also. Any of the cars with the special ducted hood would have a black lid. There wasn't a special option for the ss454. The ss396 was the base for that year & the LS5 was another option on top of that so the bright work would be the same as the ss396..Joe
