What speed equipment was available for 4 cylinder Chev motors? I have read about an overhead cam cylinder head, does anyone have one either for sale or for pictures?

I have a 1928 Chev sprint car under restoration and any information or ideas would be helpful

I have one. I was told it was made by Robert Roof. It is alledged to have been on a Missouri based dirt car.

Here's a good thread to read:

And, below is a pic that I took a couple of years ago. The OHC Chevy head is in a locked container box in the Stockton, CA area. Also in that box are other speed equipment, a 1925 Chevy block set up for racing, and a John Gerber-built motor. Most of it is for sale. This stuff belonged to the late Carl Schmid. His son now owns all this.

Cheers, Dean

That is an interesting arrangement. It prompts 2 questions from me
1) what is the 1st lobe on the camshaft for?
2) was the cam gear or chain drive?

My question is that I cannot see all of the valves. Is this for a 28 Chevy head?

From what I recall, it is a '28 head and I don't know what the extra lobes are for.

Brian said that he didn't know the history of this head, so I don't know how the cam gear was driven. I believe he was asking $1600 for it.

He also has a bunch of the '23 OLDS 3-port heads. He'll magnaflux them and sell them too. I don't recall the price.

That head is either a single port Chev head,or a 3 exhaust port Chev/Olds 4cyl head,as the the inlet manifold exhaust heating port has a pipe plug screwed into it
