The Optima 8010-044 RedTop Starting AGM Battery 6V requires 6.65-7.5 volts to properly charge the battery so I am told by Optima. Its got 800 cold cranking amps which is great.
If it charges too little or too much it can heat up, crack, and make a big mess. Does anyone know what "normal" output on our generators in a 1935 standard is?
Thx.

A 1933 generator puts out between 6.5 to 8.2 volts at its maximum rpm rating at 1850 rpm

I have been using the Optima Red Top batt for 18 months now in both 4 and 6 cyl chevys without charging problems. BUT one thing I have noticed is that the Optima batts, both 6 and 12 volts require very tight, clean connections to deliver the performance they are noted for. Actually, loose corroded connections will make a charged Optima appear almost dead.
Why? That seems to be the only fault I can find with them.

Using a 6 volt optima in my 48 Fleetmaster for the last 6 years and it is still going strong.
My car is garaged in another part of town so for safety reasons ( 67 years old wiring hood )I always take the battery home.
My generator is charging at 7,4 Volts.
During the winder I use a good quality battery tender for a few hours once a month witch is charging at 0,8 Amp.
Never problems.

Dan, Loose, corroded connections is not a fault with the battery, it is a fault with the connections. You will experience this fault with any make of battery.
