That feature was used on 1941 and 1942 cars. To extend the visor the wing nut was loosened and the visor could be extended. The wing nut could be dangerous if a frontal collision and in 1946 just friction held the visor in place but still could be extended.

Hello Chev Nut,
Did the '37 MD have an optional passenger side visor and if so were they the same size as the driver side ??
A few extras came with my car, but are physically larger. I think they may be '46 as my Uncle did own one along with a parts car.

Yes, there was an accessory R.H. visor. It looked exactly the same as the left.

Chevgene,
Is there anyway to retrofit interior sun visors on a 1942 to friction fit like a 46, and get rid of the wing nut?

Not that I know of. The wing nut shold be towards the headlining when the visor is not in use. That way it is only visable when the visor is down (and dangerous to your head)

Gene, There you go a-badmouthing 41s (and 42s) again. Talking about the wing nut being dangerous to your noggin. Let me see, I you are in a 1941 and run head on into the likes of a 1938 say, how much damage are your really worrying about from the wing nut smacking you in the head? In any case and no matter the closing rate of speed, the stinkin 38 is going to mess up the 41s grill a bit and may even drive the radiator into the fan. The 38, on the other hand, would be a strong candidate for the "hook" or swep up off the highway so's traffic can pass without the worry of punctures from all the debris it has scattered all over the highway. So let's be more positive of the beautiful, well designed, 41s. Please. A dangerous wing nut. Now that is a reach. I'm just messing with you. I have no doubt that safety and liability was the driving factors in dropping them (wing nuts). Charlie

If I had a '41 I would remove the visors and install a Fulton.
