Where can I locate a Metal cam timing gear for a 1929 194 cu. engine. I looked at the Filling Station Cat. and only saw fiber one. I also looked at Billy Possum site and did not see it.

Why are you opposed to the use of the fiber gear. Steel to Steel, will drive you bumpy with the sound. I suggest you stay with the fiber cam gear.

FYI. I have been running an aluminum camshaft timing gear in a 216 for 28,000 miles now. I have never heard, nor has anyone else heard a sound from the metal to metal contact. And this includes that I don't turn the radio to full volume to cover any excessive engine noises.

I had a 1952 216 engine that had an aluminum cam gear installed. It mades a whieing noise when cold but once the oil started flowing to it it was quiet.

The reason it was not used in passenger cars is because of noise.
If you put a new fiber gear in an engine todat AND IT GETS OIL it will outlast the rest of the engine.

Gear noise is related to the class/quality of gear made. A AGMA 12 gear will be better than a AGMA 5 gear for noise. So you can get a gear not to be noisy but are you willing to pay for it? Don't think so.
