Hello Bob, its refreshing to hear from a Chevy LUV owner. These little things were fun trucks and a lot of people loved them back in the day but you don't see them anymore. Kudos for keeping one rolling. Let's see if we can help you keep it cool.

You mentioned not being able to find the original style, (which I believe is the popular GM A6 compressor.)

I know there's a used one at a place called K & K Motors in Graham, Texas. Their number is 1-800-766-2009 and the A/C compressor is stock #50196. This may be an option.

If you're looking for OEM replacement,Napa sells a remanufactured A6 with part #TEM 251101 and Rock Auto lists an AC Delco replacement P/N 1521764 but I don't know if that's the 100% correct one or not. If you search them up online or at your local NAPA they may be able to match one up for you.

Let us know if that helps at all!

I doubt very much that they would have used an A6 as it would have been larger than the engine. They probably used a Japan make.

Now I'm intrigued. Bob do you see any markings on your original compressor? Any Harrison stickers or Delco Air stickers and numbers? A photo may be helpful. It may have also been an R4 unit, which was about as wide but not as long.

I'm not 100% on the compressor and the GM Heritage Center documents for the '76 LUV only list AC and the RPO code C60 but they don't have a part number listed for the actual unit. I'll be honest, the last time I saw a LUV was 2004 so its been a while. They shared the platform and engine with the Isuzu P'up and while they could have used a Japanese compressor (maybe a Denso, etc) I wouldn't rule out an AC Delco unit.

Our former '76 Chevette had factory A/C and it used the smaller R4 unit if I recall. The similarly Isuzu-sourced 1.6 had a tough time spinning it, but it worked.

You can see it hanging out in the photo above.

Let us know Bob if you can take a photo or get any info off the OEM unit in your truck. Thanks!

A Chevette had a German engine as the entire car was sorced from Germany...Opel
The Isuzu engine was used in the first S10 trucks if I remember correctly.

Looks like the early S-10 used a Cavalier engine then switched to the famous Iron Duke in 1986. All US GM engines.

ACDelco.com still shows a listing of 15-21764 which is a R-4 compressor. It still shows to be a valid part number.

Looks like it may be a Delco compressor kit to adapt to what ever kind of compressor was on it. Good deal.

Thanks Dave for cross checking the part number & the info.

Now Bob may be able to keep cool in Texas this season. I'd be happy to send him some of our snow and ice right now willy
