Call me a worry wort but, but with Premium Gas your only getting 91 Octane now,and back when these engines were built that was what Regular's Octane was now. I always use 108 Octane Boost and Lead Supplements. For oil I use any 10/30 oil with Z-7 in it or I buy the Z-7 additive.

Using the proper oil for the performance engines is more important than the fuel. Today's oils are for today's cars. They don't play nice with flat tappet cams..Joe

If the engine does not ping the octane is high enough.
A different way to rate octane is used today and the numbers are slightly lower than they were in 1969. Todays preimum would be about 95 octane in 1969.
For oil I would recommend Quaker State DEFY. It has more Zinc add semi-synthetic and resonalble priced at Walmart.
This engine would be an example of and engine that would require more zinc.

Very good input. I've always used Quaker State or Penzoil motor oil in every one of my cars. Thanks to all, Bill

Here's an article worth viewing. I went with the Valvoline VR1 racing, (acceptable for street use) in my 302 Chevrolet & after about 4 or 5 miles I had to turn the idle down. Never had that happen before. The Quaker state Defy is in the top 7...Joe
